Jackson confirmed he has a herniated disk

For the first time, Rams RB Steven Jackson confirmed that he does indeed have a herniated disk, a condition first reported by the Post-Dispatch two weeks ago.

"It's been a herniated disk for some time," Jackson said. "There's no surgery needed. Me playing on it doesn't make things worse. You've just got to give it time to heal."

Obviously, there's no time to let it heal in the middle of a season.

"All you can do is rest it," he said. "You can't shoot it up. You have to stabilize the muscles around it and my core — all things that I'll work on in the offseason. But like I said, no surgery is needed."

Jackson said he plans to play against the 49ers.
