Hanson out after 'minor' knee surgery

Lions kicker Jason Hanson underwent a "fairly minor knee procedure" Tuesday morning, according to head coach Jim Schwartz.

Schwartz wouldn't comment on the nature of the surgery and said he doesn't know how long the 39-year-old will be sidelined, only that "we're optimistic we'll get him back on the field pretty quickly."

"The idea was, rather than let it linger and turn into something that was going to nag him all season, which it most likely would have, we decided to do it now why we had a little bit of time," Schwartz said.

In the meantime, the Lions re-signed kicker Swayze Waters.
