At the end of this morning's practice with the Saints, owner Robert Kraft spent a few minutes with a scrum of reporters talking about the importance of Sam Cunningham, the latest Patriots Hall of Fame inductee who's in town for the honor.
Sensing that the conversation was eventually going to take a turn toward business, Kraft threw it in reverse and made a break for it at the first opportunity.
As he made his getaway, I sidled over and asked if there was any progress toward a new contract for Tom Brady.
"We're cooking," he answered.
Minutes later, Kraft turned the heat down a smidge. Asked by Albert Breer of the Boston Globe what "we're cooking" meant, Kraft acted as if the phrase never fell from his lips.
Meanwhile, a source close to the Brady situation said a new deal wasn't exactly imminent but that "things change pretty fast."
