Ed Reed expected to play, not retire, after hip surgery

Baltimore Ravens free safety Ed Reed is expected to play next season after recently having hip surgery that likely will keep him out of this weekend's minicamp, says a league source.

Reed said after January's divisional-round playoff loss to the Indianapolis Colts that he was considering retirement at age 31 following a season filled with neck, hip and groin injuries. He missed four games in December because of the hip injury, then returned for the regular-season finale and two playoff contests.
