Eagles release DeSean Jackson

The Eagles dropped a bombshell Friday afternoon when they released wide receiver DeSean Jackson, who was coming off a Pro Bowl season in which he caught 82 passes for 1332 yards and 9 TDs. The Eagles reportedly explored compensation from other teams around the league via trade, but Jackson’s outright release comes as a surprise.

"After careful consideration over this offseason, the Philadelphia Eagles have decided to part ways with DeSean Jackson. The team informed him of his release today," the team said in a statement.

Fantasy Impact:

This move has been rumored for quite some time now, but still comes as a bit of a surprise. It's unlike the Eagles to not get anything in return for a player who is just 27 and coming off perhaps his best season, which means there was not a lot of interest from teams to deal for him and his large contract. News also came out today about Jackson's ties to a gang in Los Angeles. Obviously, way too many red flags eventually forced the Eagles decision here. Jackson had been tied to several teams via trade, like the 49ers and Patriots, and the Jets came out and said they were interested in Jackson, but wouldn't give up a pick. Jeremy Maclin and Riley Cooper now emerge as the team's top receivers. It also means the Birds will likely address the WR position early in the draft next month.
