The Dolphins are promoting running back LaMichael James from the practice squad. That means Miami will have four running backs on the active roster — Lamar Miller, Damien Williams, Daniel Thomas and James.
James — 5-foot-9, 195 pounds — was a star running back at the University of Oregon. He led the NCAA in rushing with 1,731 yards in 2010.
He was drafted in the second round of the 2012 Draft by San Francisco but he’s rushed for just 184 yards in his career.
Miller is dealing with a shoulder injury and was limited to just four carries in Sunday’s loss to Detroit. Williams had a team-high seven carries for 34 yards. It may be a move to add some insurance at the position, especially if Miller is going to be limited, or perhaps even out. It's a quick turnaround as the Dolphins play the Bills Thursday night.
