Cards think Andre Ellington will play Week 5

Although Arizona Cardinals running back Andre Ellington was inactive for a third straight game Sunday, coach Bruce Arians said it was a last-minute decision to hold him out.

Ellington, who has been sidelined since the season opener due to a sprained knee, was "very close" to playing against the St. Louis Rams. "It was between him and a healthy player," Arians said.

Cardinals general manager Steve Keim is optimistic Ellington will be ready for next weekend's game against the Detroit Lions.

"He was close to being ready this week. As a matter of fact he practiced and I thought he looked pretty good out there," Keim said per Arizona Sports. "But I think he feels pretty good and he's excited and ready to go. Hopefully he'll have a good week of preparation and we'll see him out there against Detroit."

Fantasy Impact:

Chris Johnson has played well in Ellington's absence, rushing for 110 yards and two touchdowns in Week 3 and adding 83 yards on 16 carries in Sunday's loss. It will be interesting to see how the team splits the workload. Ellington should be involved in the passing game while Chris Johnson could see more of the early down work.

Former Ravens RB J.K. Dobbins is planning to sign with the #Chargers on a one-year deal. Electric when healthy, Dobbins — who averages 5.8 yards per carry in his career — reunites with OC Greg Roman and can hit the market again in March.

Fantasy Impact:

Dobbins has had poor injury luck in his career, but has only managed 234 total rushes since being drafted in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft. This is a low-risk, high-reward move by the Chargers and might give them a runway to wait a little longer in the '24 Draft before they address the position.

Cowboys sign RB Royce Freeman

The Cowboys have signed running back Royce Freeman to a one-year deal. Freeman had 319 yards on 77 carries with 2 touchdowns last year for the Los Angeles Rams. He was 3rd round pick of Denver in '18.

Fantasy Impact:

Freeman hasn't rushed for 500 yards since 2018, his rookie season. This shouldn't have any impact on the team drafting at the position and/or bringing back Ezekiel Elliott.

The Eagles have paid another big-time, rising player. This time, WR DeVonta Smith gets a 3-year, $75M contract extension that includes $51M guaranteed.
