Bucs won't risk re-injury to Doug Martin (shoulder)

Buccaneers RB Doug Martin said he’s day to day and believes it will be his decision whether or not he’ll be able to return this season from a shoulder injury. Martin needs surgery at some point, and HC Greg Schiano said he’ll only be allowed to return if team doctors believe Martin won’t be subject to further damage to the shoulder.

Fantasy Impact:

The initial report had Martin targeting a Week 10 return, but since Martin is not practicing, that doesn't look like it's going to happen. It's hard to imagine a scenario where Martin wouldn't be risking further injury by coming back prior to surgery, but it sounds as if both he and the team are open to the idea of a return in 2013. We're holding in deeper leagues, but if there is an attractive waiver wire option that can offer immediate or near-term help (i.e. Shane Vereen or Andre Brown), go ahead and cut Martin.
