Blake Bortles out of boot, expected to start

Blake Bortles is out of his boot.

That’s a step in the right direction in terms of the Jaguars’ rookie quarterback playing Thursday, which Jedd Fisch believes Bortles will do.

Fisch, the Jaguars’ offensive coordinator, said while Bortles did not participate in the team’s light work on Monday evening, he is preparing as if Bortles will play and start against the Tennessee Titans Thursday.

“As far as I know, it’s going to be Blake,” Fisch said Tuesday as the Jaguars (2-12) prepared to play the Titans (2-12) at EverBank Field Thursday at 8:25 p.m.

“We’re going to obviously see how he practices. He did not participate (Monday), so we’ll have to see how he does today, then see how it looks today and tomorrow.

“The plan right now is to see how he feels.”

Fantasy Impact:

The Titans are ranked 19th in allowing fantasy points to QBs. Even in what is an OK matchup on paper, it's tough to trust Bortles even as a QB2 if this is your fantasy final, but it's looking like he's going to be able to play.

Chargers to sign RB J.K. Dobbins on one-year deal

Former Ravens RB J.K. Dobbins is planning to sign with the #Chargers on a one-year deal. Electric when healthy, Dobbins — who averages 5.8 yards per carry in his career — reunites with OC Greg Roman and can hit the market again in March.

Fantasy Impact:

Dobbins has had poor injury luck in his career, but has only managed 234 total rushes since being drafted in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft. This is a low-risk, high-reward move by the Chargers and might give them a runway to wait a little longer in the '24 Draft before they address the position.

Cowboys sign RB Royce Freeman

The Cowboys have signed running back Royce Freeman to a one-year deal. Freeman had 319 yards on 77 carries with 2 touchdowns last year for the Los Angeles Rams. He was 3rd round pick of Denver in '18.

Fantasy Impact:

Freeman hasn't rushed for 500 yards since 2018, his rookie season. This shouldn't have any impact on the team drafting at the position and/or bringing back Ezekiel Elliott.

The Eagles have paid another big-time, rising player. This time, WR DeVonta Smith gets a 3-year, $75M contract extension that includes $51M guaranteed.
