Atrocious run blocking has not helped, but Joique Bell doesn’t look to have the same power or burst out of the backfield.
He didn’t play all preseason and hasn’t gotten many opportunities, but with Ameer Abdullah and Theo Riddick more productive right now, Bell’s role could end up being diminished if he doesn’t find his old form soon.
He is still effective as a pass-catcher (a little better than his career yards per reception) but he has looked hesitant. That’s not good for a guy who is supposed to be Detroit’s best between-the-tackles rusher. In two games, he has 10 carries for 16 yards. But the Lions have not been in too many situations to use him at his best, where he's a yards-eater late.
Abdullah and Riddick are also standouts in the passing game, but there should be a need for Bell's between-the-tackles style of running. Hopefully for owners it's a case of just getting back up to speed.
