Thinking Inside the Box: Week 13
Welcome to another edition of Thinking Inside the Box, where I peruse the box scores for interesting tidbits of information.
Prior to his 8-174-4 effort, Eric Decker caught just 13 passes for 170 yards and no TDs in his previous four games, including W12’s 1-5.
Montee Ball with 13 carries for 117 yards (9.0 YPC) - if he can hold onto the football, he will eat into Moreno’s workload.
After 8 TDs in his first 8 games, Wes Welker hasn’t found the endzone in his last four.
Alex Smith is averaging 30.0 rush yards per game — that’s like getting 3/4 of a TD in standard scoring formats. #underratedlegs
KC kept Dwayne Bowe in to block on at least one play yesterday (a Jenkins completion). That doesn’t seem like the best use of his skills.
Dexter McCluster has scored 9.3+ in PPR formats in five of his last six games.
Cecil Shorts had a surprisingly good game 6-64-1 (11) against Joe Haden. HOU and BUF the next two weeks.
The return of Brandon Weeden didn’t help Jordan Cameron 4-43 (7), though he was #2 on team in targets.
Even with his two-game suspension, Josh Gordon is the #2 WR in fantasy. He is only 4.5 points behind Calvin from W3-W13.
Donald Brown got off to a slow start (7 carries, 5 yards in 1st half), but carried the ball 7 times for 49 yards and a TD in the 2nd half.
Justin Hunter played 51 snaps, but didn’t do much with them. 1-9 (5)
T.Y. Hilton has 15 catches in the last three games, but just 128 yards. Three tough matchups though (TEN, ARI, TEN).
The end of the MIN/CHI game was crazy. On the day he became NFL’s all-time most accurate kicker, Robbie Gould missed two FGs.
In approximately 20 quarters of play this season, McCown is averaging 73 yards and 0.45 TD per quarter. (1/2)
Re: Josh McCown… That extrapolates to 292 yards and 1.8 TD over a full, four-quarter game.
Since Week 10, John Carlson is the #10 TE in fantasy. 4-61 (6) in Week 13.
Won’t say much about the MIA/NYJ game, other than I was surprised that Lamar Miller mustered 3.3 YPC. Had him projected for 2.9.
Since Week 5, Nick Foles is the #5 QB in fantasy. That includes half of a game vs. NYG, a missed game, a clunker vs. DAL and a bye.
Over the past three weeks, Michael Floyd and Larry Fitzgerald are the #3 and #7 WRs, respectively. Tougher matchups coming up.
Over the same span, Carson Palmer is the #3 QB. 1,035 yards, 7 TDs and 2 INTs.
Jonathan Stewart (16) out-touched Mike Tolbert (12), but Tolbert out-gained him (89 to 42).
Since Week 8, Tiquan Underwood is the #25 WR in fantasy. He posted 3-51 (4) against the Panthers. Sneaky Start vs. BUF next week.
Greg Olsen has quietly posted #3 TE numbers since Week 8. 5-85 (7) vs. TB.
Gotta love Ben Tate’s consistency. 7 carries, one yard in W12… 22 carries, 102 yards, 3 TD in W13.
Shane Vereen (41) led NE RBs in snaps... Develin (29), Blount (20) and Bolden (9).
Pretty sure I’ll be ranking Julian Edelman 9-101 (12) ahead of Danny Amendola 5-54 (5) going forward.
Since Week 9, Tom Brady is the #4 QB in fantasy, and that includes his bye week. He has the 2nd highest PPG over that span (Foles).
Yay! C.J. Spiller! 17 touches, 157 yards, and a wicked TD run. F-Jax still saw 15 touches for 78 yards and two TDs.
Yay! Roddy White! 10-143 (14)
Yay! Steven Jackson! 23 carries, 83 yards, 2 TDs. Can the Bills and Falcons play each other every week?
There was room for Boldin 9-98 (13), Vernon 4-82-1 (5) and Crabtree 2-68 (4) this week, but 275 passing yards is a lot for SF.
Come on, Danny Woodhead. You have to do better than 35 yards on nine touches coming off a big game with Ryan Mathews gimpy.
Targets. RT @_quikfingers_: @4for4_John What's the number in Brackets?
Since Week 4, Keenan Allen is the #12 WR in fantasy. He’s averaging 6.1-90-.33 in that span.
Oh Marvin Jones, why don’t the Bengals use you? 2-12 (3)
Andre Brown’s two TDs saved an otherwise lackluster fantasy line — 17 touches, 58 yards.
The struggles of Hakeem Nicks continue. He’s now the #55 WR in fantasy, behind Ted Ginn and Kenny Stills.
Alfred Morris caught three passes for 27 yards. Sadly, those were both career highs.
