Another week, another fantasy star down for the count. Last week it was Jamaal Charles, and now the news is pretty grim for Kenny Britt, who tore his ACL and is out for the year.
In addition to Britt, Michael Vick has a bruised right (non-throwing) hand and may miss next week, Jeremy Maclin could miss Week 4 with a hamstring injury, Frank Gore has a balky ankle, Beanie Wells has a bad hammy and Darren McFadden suffered some sort of a groin injury as he ran roughshod over the Jets.
So needless to say, there are more than a few owners out there with work to do. I'll once again list the top pickups by position and include my best guess for Free Agent Acquisition Budgets in parenthesis (assuming a $100 bankroll).
Last week, our top WW pickups were Cam Newton, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Ben Tate, Daniel Thomas, Dexter McCluster and David Nelson, who all had pretty productive weeks. Let's see if we can find a few more gems on the waiver wire...
Redskins QB Rex Grossman ($8)
Barring a complete meltdown against the Cowboys on Monday night, Grossman should be a solid pickup heading into Week 4. Through two games he has averaged 298 yards and 2.0 TD. He'll throw a few picks, but Grossman has proven over his last five starts for the Redskins that he's a solid fantasy QB in Kyle Shanahan's system.
Next up: Rams, BYE, Eagles
Titans QB Matt Hasselbeck ($4)
Through three games, Hasselbeck is averaging 311 yards and 1.7 TDs. He did lose Kenny Britt, so he's going to have to find another target besides Nate Washington that he trusts in the passing game. Jared Cook should be that guy, but thus far Hasselbeck hasn't really looked his way.
Next up: Browns, Steelers, BYE
Browns QB Colt McCoy ($4)
McCoy has been remarkably consistent thus far this season, throwing for between 210-213 yards in each of his three games. He also has five TDs versus a pair of interceptions. He's not a guy who is going to throw for a ton of yards, but he has good job security and is gaining trust in his weapons.
Next up: Titans, BYE, Raiders
