Shaun Hill 2009 Fantasy Football value hurt by Michael Crabtree holdout

Shaun Hill 2009 preseason outlook

In nine games - eight starts - in 2008 for the 49ers, Hill put up pretty good numbers, throwing for just over 2,000 yards and 13 touchdowns. Considering that was really his first real shot at regular playing time, those numbers aren't too bad. He's not going to turn into Peyton Manning, but he's going to get a little better the more he plays. The 49ers are 7-3 in the past two seasons when Hill starts, 5-17 when anybody else does. That tells me he's got some intangibles. Those intangibles should keep him in the starting lineup, barring injury.

Hill is what he is, a journeyman quarterback. He's not outstanding in any one phase of the game, other than accuracy. And until Michael Crabtree ends his holdout, the 49ers receivers are rather pedestrian. Mike Singletary is going to be a run-first coach, anyway, so Hill is pretty much a game manager.

Now that he's been named the starter, Hill is somebody you shouldn't forget about on draft day. He's not starting material, but he's worth stashing away on your roster. Because of his relative inexperience, there is the possibility that there is still some upside. But the ceiling isn't that great. He may not be the household name as some guys ranked above him are, but his ADP of 150-160 is about right. He's a low-end No. 2 quarterback.
