QB by Committee
by Ross KellyWhat is QBBC?
Quarterbacks can elicit a wide range of reactions from fantasy players. Some view them just as important as running backs and will try to get one of the elite QBs within the first two rounds. Others see them as semi-crucial and will draft them in rounds 3-6 with their starting wide receivers. Finally theres the group that prefers to stack the other parts of their lineup knowing that they can manufacture great production out of their QB spot with a pair of players, known as a quarterback-by-committee (QBBC). I will explore why they choose to use this strategy and also let you know which combination of QBs could allow you to match the production of a single player drafted five rounds earlier.
Did you know that in 2008 the 9th best fantasy QB scored only about three more points per game than the 21st best fantasy QB? That shows how little separation there is among the "middle-of-the-pack" fantasy quarterbacks. Obviously you wouldnt want to start the 21st best fantasy QB every week (especially when its Jake Delhomme as it was last year). But by selecting two players from that range, you can practically guarantee at least eight "slam-dunk" games where your QB feasts on bad defenses. The key is finding the right combination of players.
