Defense by Committee

by Ross Kelly

Every fantasy football veteran has at one time or another resorted to using a running-back-by-committee. Whether you use it as strategy or as a necessity, it can be an effective way to win your league. But running backs aren't the only positions where employing a committee can help you. A defense-by-committee (DBC) could help you achieve your fantasy success in ways you never imagined.

The first thing that probably pops into your head whenever you hear a DBC is, "Why would I use that? That just means I'll have to use an extra roster spot on another defense." Yes that's true. But really, would you rather have a sixth wide receiver on your bench that never sees the starting lineup? Or would you rather have a second defense that you can rotate with the first defense depending on the matchup? I'll take the latter as it allows for more flexibility with your roster.
