24APR07 Chicago Tribune : Will Lance Briggs get the chance to excel in the Tampa-2 defense in Tampa Bay? The Bucs joined the list of teams interested in the Bears' disgruntled outside linebacker, according to Adam Schefter of NFL Network. If Monday is any indication—Briggs was mentioned in Internet trade rumors involving the Bucs, Giants, Broncos, Bills and Redskins — the speculation about his future will continue to fly up until this weekend's NFL draft.

24APR07 New York Post : Chad Pennington looked sharp in his charcoal suit shortly before being honored by the Big Brothers Big Sisters of New York City last night at the Waldorf Astoria. More important, though, Pennington wore a distinct look of relaxed confidence - the kind a starting NFL quarterback wears when he's completely healthy and secure in his job and role. For the first time in his career, Pennington is working through an offseason without having to worry about rehabbing a potentially career-threatening injury, or about the status of his starting job. For the first time in his career, Pennington is attending the team's offseason workout program after having started an entire 16-game schedule.

23APR07 ESPN : The Ravens signed DC Rex Ryan to a two-year contract.

23APR07 Florida Sun Sentinel : Trent Green 's agents have asked Peterson to expedite a trade to the Dolphins. The request came after Peterson reiterated his hard-line stance in negotiations earlier in the week to the Kansas City Star . Peterson claimed that 2nd- and 7th-round draft picks would be fair compensation because Green is a starting QB and the Dolphins received the same when trading WR Wes Welker to NE last month. Please. Peterson is understandably trying to make the best deal he can with a Dolphins team known for getting suckered in the past when trading 2nd-round picks for QBs A.j. Feeley and Daunte Culpepper. Seeking leverage, Peterson has even said Cle and Det had inquired about Green, which probably didn't sit well with either franchise considering the negative impact such a public revelation can have on their current QBs.

23APR07 Florida Sun Sentinel : Dolphins WR Chris Chambers was yanked from the first-team offense at one point during minicamp because Cameron was unhappy with his per-formance. That was an eye-opener for Chambers, who should be better utilized by Cameron. The Dolphins already are trying to find mismatches by calling plays with Chambers in the slot, which is something former OC Mike Mularkey didn't do last season.

23APR07 Florida Sun Sentinel : The reason for Dolphins coach Cam Cameron's Thursday firing of RBs coach Bobby Williams remains unclear. But it's believed Ronnie Brown didn't help Williams' cause by being over his target weight at last weekend's minicamp and fumbling during one of the sessions. DT Manny Wright also was 15 pounds above his target weight of 330 pounds. Considering the Dolphins are giving him a second chance after he walked out on the team during last year's training camp, Wright should have reported in tip- top shape to offseason workouts.

21APR07 The Bengals signed DT Michael Myers to a two-year contract; re-signed LBLandon Johnson to a one-year contract.

21APR07 The Broncos signed punter Todd Sauerbrun to a one-year contract.

21APR07 Kansas City Star : Maybe the Chiefs are truly concerned about Larry Johnson 's welfare. Perhaps it's a sign they believe he is ready to hold out or they're preparing to trade him. Or it could be just something as simple as the Chiefs doing their predraft homework. Whatever the reason, they met this week at Arrowhead Stadium with at least 4 of the higher-profile running backs available in the coming draft: California's Marshawn Lynch, Ohio State's Antonio Pittman, Florida State's Lorenzo Booker and Louisville's Kolby Smith. Oklahoma's Adrian Peterson , widely considered the top RB available in the draft, did not visit with the Chiefs this week. Neither did some of the other top runners, including Arizona's Chris Henry , Auburn's Kenny Irons, Penn State's Tony Hunt and Alabama's Kenneth Darby. The Chiefs were unavailable Thursday but the agents for all of the players said the Chiefs told them they planned to draft a RB in an early round.

21APR07 Kansas City Star : The Chiefs have obvious needs at cornerback and defensive line and wants at several other positions, most notably WR. It's not a good year for them to be short a draft pick, which they are because they sent their 4th-round choice to New Orleans in last season's trade for RB Michael Bennett . Those six picks are fewer than the Chiefs have had since 2002, which was one of their lousier drafts. They had little margin for error but made them anyway when they picked DTs Ryan Sims and Eddie Freeman in the first 2 rounds. That's why the Chiefs are offering in trades QB Trent Green , starting safety Greg Wesley, KR Dante Hall and even RB Larry Johnson . They're looking for extra picks that will allow them to cast a bigger net.

21APR07 The Dolphins fired RBs coach Bobby Williams.

21APR07 NFL.com : Corey Dillon is again leaning toward retiring.

19APR07 Florida Sun Sentinel : Ricky Williams is six days from being eligible for reinstatement to the NFL, but the suspended running back may have to wait until after the draft April 28-29 before being able to officially rejoin the Dolphins. Williams was banned from the NFL on April 25, 2006 after losing an appeal of a fourth failed drug test. Agent Leigh Steinberg said Wednesday that Williams has sent a letter asking for reinstatement to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and is undergoing regular drug testing under the NFL's auspices. Under the NFL's substance-abuse policy, Williams would continue getting tested after reinstatement at a frequency determined by the league's medical advisor.

19APR07 St. Louis Post Dispatch : Rams coach Scott Linehan said he would entertain the prospect of bringing Ricky Williams to St. Louis as the team's No. 2 running back. Williams played for Miami when Linehan was Dolphins offensive coordinator in 2005. "Based on how he played and the kind of person he was to be around, and the professional he was, I would certainly consider it," Linehan said Thursday. "He's proven himself with me. I know there would a certain amount of risk involved on that. . . I would have to look into it a little bit more."

18APR07 Milwaukee Journal : Suspended Packers WR Koren Robinson began serving the 45-day work-release portion of his 90-day sentence Monday at the Brown County Jail, the Brown County Sheriff's department said in a news release Tuesday.

18APR07 Kansas City Star : The Chiefs agreed to terms with kicker Andre Barret on a two-year contract.

18APR07 Boston Herald : The Patriots signed wide receiver Kelvin Kight to a one-year contract.

18APR07 New York Post : The Giants signed quarterback Anthony Wright .

18APR07 Pittsburgh Gazette : The Steelers signed defensive end Nick Eason to a one-year contract.

18APR07 AP reports: The Rams signed punter Donnie Jones.

17APR07 Cleveland Plain Dealer : The Browns signed FB Alan Ricard and tight end Ryan Krause to one-year contracts.

17APR07 AP reports: The Chiefs resigned veteran DT James Reed to a three-year contract on Tuesday.

17APR07 Kansas City Star : The Chiefs G Will Shields announced his retirement.

17APR07 Miami Herald : The Dolphins signed running back Ray Perkins and center Johnathan Ingram.

17APR07 Florida Times Union : The Vikings signed WR Cortez Hankton .

17APR07 Philly.com : The Eagles signed kicker E.J. Cochrane.

16APR07 ESPN : The Cardinals signed TE Troy Bienemann and tackle Qasim Mitchell.

16APR07 Miami Herald : The continuing face-lift to the Dolphins roster is about to undergo its biggest nip and tuck yet when QB Daunte Culpepper is either traded or released in the coming months. Even as the Dolphins continue working toward acquiring not one but 2 QBs before April is out, Culpepper's days with the team have become numbered, according to those within the organization with knowledge of the situation. The Dolphins are still trying to acquire Trent Green from KC, and although there is no timetable for that to happen, it is likely some movement will happen by the April 28-29 draft. The Dolphins also hope to pick a QB in that draft, with GM Randy Mueller saying Sunday he believes the 2007 QB draft class is, "a good group," and that "5 or 6 guys are first-day worthy."

16APR07 ESPN : Having watched their offense sputter under the direction of a pair of journeymen veterans during a three- day weekend minicamp that concluded on Sunday, the Dolphins are expected this week to ramp up their efforts to complete a much-discussed trade for Chiefs QB Trent Green . Citing unnamed sources, the Florida Sun Sentinel reported that the trade could be completed this week, which would likely lead to the release of Daunte Culpepper , who was unable to participate in the minicamp as he continues recovering from knee surgery. League sources said that officials from the Dolphins and Chiefs, who have been talking about the trade for more than a month, recently resumed negotiations.

15APR07 Arizona Republic : Cardinals WR Leron Mccoy somehow suffered fractures near the tips of two fingers on his right hand but should be able to participate in the next minicamp in early May. When asked how the injury happened, McCoy replied: "Long story. I'll be back in 12 days."

15APR07 Cincinnati Enquirer : Unless they're comfortable with Doug Johnson as their top backup behind Carson Palmer , the Bengals are in the market for a #2 QB. The New York Daily News reported Saturday that QB Anthony Wright has signed a 2-year contract to be the Giants' top backup behind starter Eli Manning . As recently as Tuesday, Wright, who spent 2006 as Carson Palmer 's backup, had a nameplate above a cubicle in the Bengals' locker room. The Bengals have turned their attention to former Bucs QB Tim Rattay , according to Internet reports. There are a few other options available on the free-agent market. Among other QBs who have yet to sign with another team are Aaron Brooks (Raiders), Shane Matthews (Dolphins), Koy Detmer (Eagles) and Lang Campbell (Browns).

15APR07 Cleveland Plain Dealer : The Browns signed TE Steve Heiden to a four-year contract extension

15APR07 Florida Sun Sentinel on Daunte Culpepper The addition of QB Trent Green would likely spell the end of QB Culpepper's tenure with the Dolphins. Culpepper, who is due to earn $5.5 million this season, didn't receive medical clearance to participate in this weekend's minicamp because of ongoing problems with his right knee. If Culpepper were released or traded, Green would battle Cleo Lemon for the starting spot, although Dolphins GM Randy Mueller has said he hopes to draft a QB. Lemon and the unheralded Gibran Hamdan are the only two QBs participating in the minicamp.

15APR07 Florida Sun Sentinel on Trent Green : It shouldn't be much longer until QB Green joins the Dolphins. A source said Saturday the Dolphins are set to make another run at acquiring Green from Kansas City and a trade should be completed this week. The Dolphins and Chiefs were far apart in negotiations last month, but Green's desire to play in South Florida will likely push Kansas City to finalize a deal for a second-day pick in the April 28-29 draft. Green essentially controls his destiny, as he can scuttle virtually any trade by refusing to restructure a contract that calls for a 2007 base salary of $7.2 million. The Dolphins and Green already have reached agreement on parameters of a new contract.

14APR07 Rochester Democrat&Chronicle : The Browns need a lot of things in the NFL college draft April 28-29, but if Notre Dame QB Brady Quinn is available with the No. 3 overall pick, he should be their man. He'd be an immediate upgrade at the most important position on the field and a potential crowd favorite and gate attraction. Another plus in drafting Quinn is that he has said Cleveland is the team he wants to play for. That attitude would be a boost for a franchise that needs some positive vibes.

14APR07 Miami Herald on Daunte Culpepper: Dolphins QB Cleo Lemon , the presumed backup for 2007, took the first-team snaps at QB while Daunte Culpepper spent his time on the same stationary bicycle he rode at the end of 2006, raising serious questions about Culpepper's future with Miami. Rookie Miami coach Cam Cameron was asked about Culpepper's future with the team, and his answer – "it's a work in progress" - spoke to the player's uncertain status. "In any football team you want to know who your QB is," Cameron said. "But from the start we said it's going to be a process." That uncertainty is the result of Culpepper's injured right knee and Cameron's apparent infatuation with KC QB Trent Green , whom the Dolphins would like to acquire.

14APR07 San Diego Tribune : Reggie Bush 's would-be agent and former landlord to Bush's parents has settled with the Saints star and his family. Michael Michaels, who had threatened to sue, had settled with Bush and his family. The settlement was worth between $200k and $300k. Michaels has alleged that Bush's parents lived rent-free in his San Diego-area house for a year while Bush was playing at USC. He has said the arrangement came with an understanding that Bush would be the key figure in New Era Sports & Entertainment, a fledgling marketing agency co-founded by Michaels and Lloyd Lake. Bush instead signed with marketing agent Mike Ornstein and agent Joel Segal. Michaels and Lake claimed to be out $300k, including $100k in cash disbursements to the Bush family, and threatened to sue.

14APR07 AP reports on Anthony Wright : The Giants stabilized their QB depth chart Friday, with the team has reaching a contract agreement with unrestricted free agent Anthony Wright, who is expected to serve as the primary backup to Eli Manning . An eight-year veteran, Wright will officially sign a two-year contract early next week. Financial details were not immediately available. Wright appeared in four games with the Bengals in 2006, completing all 3 pass attempts.

14APR07 Philadelphia Inquirer : Brian Westbrook was overpaid last season. That's not an opinion. It's a fact. The Eagles admitted yesterday that an accounting gaffe resulted in the team's paying its star running back a $3 million roster bonus twice. The Eagles have been forced to file a grievance with the NFL against Westbrook because the money has not yet been repaid. According to a team source, Westbrook and his agent, Fletcher Smith, have acknowledged the mistake and intend to return the money. Smith did not return a phone call yesterday. The matter becomes complicated from an accounting standpoint because of the taxes already paid on the money.

14APR07 Nashville Tennessean : Titans CB Pacman Jones said Friday night he plans to appeal his season-long NFL suspension and believes he's been made the "poster boy'' by the league. Jones made his comments to an ESPN reporter while attending Friday Night Fights in Tunica, Miss. "For the most part I think it was a little bit harsh. I expected the suspension, but for a whole year, for a guy that hasn't been charged with nothing, I really didn't agree with it,'' Jones said. "But for the most part I am taking it like a man. I am going to appeal it and we'll see what the future brings.''

13APR07 Atlanta Journal Constitution : Falcons coach Bobby Petrino on TE: With Pro Bowl player Alge Crumpler undergoing knee surgery last week, Petrino again spoke well of 2nd-year player Daniel Fells. "We're going to keep bringing Fells along," Petrino said. "He certainly has the ability to do it. I thought Dwayne Blakley had a good camp."

13APR07 Atlanta Journal Constitution : Falcons coach Bobby Petrino on WR: Petrino addressed whether any of the young players made headway to join veterans Joe Horn, Michael Jenkins , Roddy White and Brian Finneran. "Adam Jennings had a good camp," Petrino said. "He ran and caught the ball and showed his speed and his ability to run after the catch. He made some real nice plays." of an injury.
